A good Chinese small plate with boys horse riding, Kangxi

A good quality small Chinese plate with shaped rim decorated in underglaze blue. The centre of the plate is decorated with two boys riding on horseback, and with a third horse just emerging at the right hand edge. The wide rim is decorated with three pine branches. The reverse has two bamboo sprays around he rim. The small plate is finely potted. Diameter 10.8cm (4.2”). Kangxi c1700-20.

While this small plate is the size of a saucer, the flat profile and broad central area suggests that it was not intended to pair with a cup, but rather to stand alone, and may have been made to be given as a gift.

Condition: An unstained consolidated hairline at the rim, invisible to the eye, and a small number of ‘pinhole’ frits to the points of the shaped rim.
