A good quality and unusual Chinese export plate decorated in underglaze blue, and with carved decoration to the rim, and dating from the late Kangxi or Yongzheng period. The plate is decorated with a central scene of a man standing on a rocky promontory by a lake with a pavilion on the island behind. The cavetto is decorated with flower heads against a diaper pattern and with four reserved panels with precious objects. The rim has a most attractive and unusual decoration of alternating panels of carved floral decoration, and decoration of further precious objects in underglaze blue. The reverse of the plate has two swiftly drawn branches. Diameter 23.1 cm (9.1").

Condition: this plate is in excellent undamaged condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. There are a few small glaze flaws to the reverse of the dish.
