A Chinese blanc de Chine incense holder modelled as a Buddhist lion with a bell and tassel around its neck, seated on a rectangular plinth, and holding a ribbon in its mouth attached to a ball which is under its foot. Height 12cm (4.7”)
For another example see figure 57 in the catalogue of the exhibition of blanc de Chine held by Marchant in 1994, where a pair of similar Buddhist lions are dated to c1640.
Date: This was a popular model and is not easy to date precisely. Eighteenth Century.
Condition: Good condition. Small firing cracks on the raised rim around the base.
