A Chinese export grisaille decorated sparrowbeak milk jug dating from the Qianlong period. The jug is well decorated with an unidentified scene of four European men in animated discussion in a courtyard. Height 10cm (3.9")
This scene appears to be an illustration of a literary or possibly historical subject but we have been unable to identify it from our references.
Dating: Qianlong c1750
Condition. This jug is in very good condition. There is one small chip/glaze frit to the tip of the spout. No other damage and no restoration. As can be seen the enamels are in good condition with just one small area of rubbing. There is some wear to the gilt outline of the cartouche. This jug would originally have had a lid, which is missing.
