A European-decorated Chinese Imari teabowl and saucer, Kangxi or Yongz

A European-decorated Chinese Imari teabowl and saucer, Kangxi or Yongz

Code: IB241

SOLD

An interesting example of European decoration on a Chinese Imari teabowl and saucer. The teabowl & saucer were imported with Imari decoration of a garden scene with a folding screen with a landscape. The red and gilt swags around the rim and large flower heads appear to have been added in Europe, possibly in London. (Someone must have decided that the decoration was not Imari enough!). Saucer diameter 12cm (4.7”). Teabowl diameter 7.3cm (2.9”)

Date: late Kangxi or Yongzheng c 1720-35

Condition: glaze fritting around the rim of the teabowl, and one or two frits to the saucer rim. Gilt decoration to the rims is rubbed. No other faults and no restoration.
