A good quality and attractive Chinese export plate decorated in famille verte overglaze enamels, and dating from the Kangxi period. The centre of the plate is painted with a garden scene with hens and chicks underneath a flowering tree from which is hanging a birdcage. There is a bonsai tree growing in a contained on a table in the background. The rim of the plate has a green band with stylised flowers and foliage, interspersed with panels of fish and scholar's objects (including a weiqi board, a ruyi sceptre and scrolls). The back of the plate is undecorated. There is an underglaze blue ding mark to the base. Plate diameter 22cm (8.7")

Condition: this plate is in very good condition. There are some small chips to the foot rim, a small restored rim chip, and some stacking wear to the red enamel in the centre of the plate.
