A beautiful Chinese silk sleeve band, second half of the 19th century
A beautiful single Chinese silk sleeve band of peony flowers and leaves dating from the second half of the 19th century, unframed with a red card mount. Unusually, the whole embroidery is worked in seed stitch known as “forbidden” stitch, rather than being worked mainly in satin stitch. The background is of “old gold” coloured silk.
