A framed finely worked pair of Chinese silk sleeve bands, C19th
A finely worked pair of Chinese silk sleeve bands or cuffs showing garden scenes with pagodas and other buildings. Unusually, the whole embroidery is worked in extremely fine seed stitch known as “forbidden” stitch with couched gold metallic thread, rather than being worked mainly in satin stitch.
(each area of visible fabric): 49cm x 8.5 cm (19⅜” x 3⅜”)
(frame): 61 cm x 31 cm (24” x 12”)
Date: These sleeve bands date from the second half of the 19th century and are presented in a modern frame.
Condition: These sleeve bands are in very good condition. The cream silk background is slightly discoloured and faded but the colour of the threads remains vibrant.
