A late 19th century Chinese lady's black silk damask hat, with a butterfly (symbolising joy) and another insect applied to the sides. The insects are formed by stumpwork outlined in couched threads and sequins. Pink braid edging and a braid chin strap.
Size c 20cm w, c. 13cm deep
Condition: Very good. Some fading and losses to the applied insects. Please see photographs.
