A late 19th century Chinese lady's hat/headdress in black silk and red silk brocade with decorative embroidery on paper appliqués, depicting people on one side in a boat over fish-filled waters, the fish symbolising wealth. Flowers with a butterfly, symbolising joy, are on the opposite side. The red section at the back is outlined in couched gilt thread. Lined in green silk. Diameter c. 20cm; length at rear 21.5 cm.
Condition: The exterior is very good. Minor faults to the red section and minor losses to the couching threads. The lining has some fading, surface marks and holes. Please see photographs.
