A set of 4 Chinese pith pictures of women musicians dating from the late 19th/early 20th century. The women are playing :
- 3-stringed banjo (sanxian)
- Reed organ (sheng)
- Handclappers (ban) and small gong (xialolo)
- Cymbals (bo)
The colours are fresh in all the pictures.
Condition: The pith sheets are in largely undamaged condition – in particular the painted figures are in very good condition - though there is browning and foxing throughout. There are a couple of small holes in the banjo picture and in the reed organ picture. Please see photographs.
Size: framed pictures 31cm x 22 ½cm (12¼” x 8 ¾ “).
