Good Chinese famille verte plate, Kangxi

An attractive Chinese dish of lobed form, decorated in famille verte enamels, and dating from the Kangxi period.  The rim of the dish is moulded into 8 panels, each panel decorated with flowers and ornamelntal rockwork.  The centre of the dish is similalry decorated with flowers emerging from ornameltl rockwork and with two butterflies above.  The reverse is decorated with a peony flower in each panel.  The base has a seal script mark 'zhi' (made).  Diameter 21cm (8.3")

A Kangxi bowl with similar decoration from the collection of the Groninger Museum is shown in plate 54 in the book 'Famille Verte - Chinese Porcelain in Green Enamels' by Christiaan Jorg.  Jorg points out that each flowering plant has its own meaning, and when taken together they symbolise nature's wealth, and hence riches.

Dating: Kangxi c 1700

Condition: this dish has a short (~1.5cm) hairline at the rim, a further short firing crack at the rim, a small rim chip/frit and chipping to the foot rim.  Please study our pictures.
