Chinese export armorial milk jug Qianlong

SOLD

Code: 221209

A good quality Chinese export famille rose armorial milk jug dating from the Qianlong period. The armorial shows a helmet above a shield with the helmet having a ship crest. The Latin motto omnia vincit labor (hard work conquers all) is on the scroll above the armorial. The armorial is surrounded by a gilt bamboo design. An interesting and unusual feature of this cream jug is the decoration of birds and flowering plants which is on the reverse surrounding the handle. Height 10.2 cm (4").

I have not been able to identify this armorial and it is likely to be from the continent of Europe. Armorials containing ships were often associated with the China trade and it is likely that this was produced for someone involved with the China trade.

Date: Qianlong circa 1760

Condition: this jug is missing its lid but is otherwise in very good condition with no chips, cracks or restoration.
