Pair of late C19th Chinese silk sleeve bands

A charming pair of late 19th century Chinese silk sleeve bands or cuffs showing women in a garden with trees, bridges, water features, buildings and flowers. The scenes are embroidered on a cream ground with a variety of colours and stitches, including knot and seed stitch. The embroidered figures are outlined in couched silver thread.

Condition: The embroidery is in very good condition. There is some light staining to the background material and a small number of losses to the couching stitches. The underlying design drawing can be seen in a number of places. Please see photographs.
