A Chinese dish for the Japanese market, late Ming

SOLD

Code: 240715

A nice example of a Chinese late Ming dish made for the Japanese market (ko-sometsuke ware).  The dish is decorated with underglaze blue of an inky tone with a scene of a bird in the branches of a tree, looking across at a pine tree.  The reverse is undecorated.  There is kiln grit adhering in the glaze around the foot.  Diameter 15.2cm (6")

Dating: Tianqi (1620-27)

Condition.  This dish is in good condition, with glaze fritting around the rim, as is frequently found on these ko-sometsuke wares, and with one very small rim chip (shown in our close up photos).  There are two shallow chips from the inside of the foot rim, which can be seen in our photos.
