A Chinese late Ming saucer dish with lotus design, Wanli

SOLD

Code: 260101

A Chinese dish with faintly moulded pattern to the border and central underglaze blue decoration. The central decoration is of a lotus plant surrounded by a wide shaped border of diaper patterns separate by shells. The impressed pattern around the rim is very indistinct and is most easily seen when a strong light is shone through the dish when a pattern of ruyi heads becomes visible. The reverse is undecorated. There is kiln grit adhering to the glaze around the foot and chatter marks inside the foot. Diameter 20.5cm (8.1”). Wanli c1600.

Condition: Two short consolidated hairlines at the rim, not visible to the naked eye, and some areas of glaze loss around the rim.
