A Chinese 'Blue Chrysanthemum' wreck moulded tea bowl & saucer Kangxi

SOLD

Code: 251204

A Chinese tea bowl and saucer with petal moulding, recovered from the Kangxi Bintan (‘Blue Chrysanthemum’) shipwreck. Both the tea bowl and saucer are moulded with two rows of petals, and decorated in underglaze blue with precious objects. The saucer has three precious object around the rim on the reverse, and both cup and saucer have a lingzhi fungus mark to the base. Saucer diameter 10.8cm (4.6”). Late Kangxi.

The Kangxi Bintan wreck was discovered in 2012 South-East of the island of Bintan, in the Riau archipelago, Indonesia. A selection of the finds were sold in London when they were given the name ‘Blue Chrysanthemum’.

Condition: Both cup & saucer are in very good condition, with only some glaze softening to both cup and saucer from submersion. The black line visible on the front of the saucer appears to be a manufacturing flaw, and is below the glaze.
