A 19th century Chinese lacquered papier-mâché needle case with original holding cords. The gourd and the fan suggest a wish for children. The mystic knots on the cords are a wish for a long life.  [Illustrated on p75 of Chinese Silks and Sewing Tools by Jocelyn Chatterton Pub 2002].

12cm long. 

Good condition. Discolouration to cloth interior (mostly from the applied lacquer) and fading to cords. Some minor chipping. Please see photographs.
