A lively early 20th century Chinese boy's tiger hat, made to confuse evil spirits and protect the wearer, decorated with embroidery and appliqué work. The hat is  in orange silk lined in blue. The fierce whiskered tiger has protuberant eyes and a padded nose decorated with a butterfly. There is an appliqued butterfly between his ears. At the rear is a charming attached stumpwork tail ending in a small metal bell.

16cm across the eyes. Back seam c 30cm.

Condition: Very Good. Some fading and discolouration, and a few areas of wear to the silk from use.  Please see photographs.
