A rare famille rose shell form dish, Qianlong

£395.00 Approx $498.11, €460.91

Code: 271105

A Chinese export famille rose shallow bowl of shell form with an elaborate handle. The centre of the dish is decorated in typical style with scattered flower heads and there is a gilt arrowhead border around the rim. Diameter 23 cm (9")

This bowl shows the interplay of influences happening in the C18th.  The shape of bowl is a close copy of a Sevres fruit bowl (a compotier coquille) whereas the decoration of scattered flower heads is of Meissen influence.

Date: Qianlong circa 1770 to 1780

Condition: this dish is in very good condition with only minor glaze fitting around the rim.  The gilding on the rim has been substantially lost, and there are minor losses to the enamels in the centre of the dish.
