A Chinese teabowl, finely potted and translucent, decorated with a scene in famille rose enamels and dating from the Qianlong period. The teabowl is decorated to the exterior with a continuous scene of a man looking through a circular window beneath a tree towards a young couple who in turn are looking across a paved courtyard with a column towards the man. An interesting and well-painted scene which probably illustrates a scene from a Chinese romance. The inside rim of the teabowl is decorated with a grisaille and gilt band. Diameter 7.3cm (2.9").
Date: early Qianlong c1740
Condition: this teabowl is in very good condition. There is one small area of roughness at the rim, and the teabowl has distorted during firing so that the rim is uneven, as can be seen in our photographs. No other issues and no restoration.
